We truly believe that being fit and healthy can improve all areas of your life, but it can be hard trying to make changes alone. Challenge yourself to give us 6 weeks of dedication — in the gym and in the kitchen — and we’ll take the guesswork out.

You’ll be led by our experienced coaches and surrounded by a community of encouraging members in this holistic, boot camp style program we’re calling The Healthy You Challenge.

How it works

  • review rating 5  I previously worked out at another gym that was not affiliated with CrossFit but followed CrossFit style workouts and lifts. During that time I was told to stay far away from CrossFit gyms as they were untrained coaches/owners, not certified, and taught improper form. After being there for about 4+ years, I moved further away and stopped going. One of my coworkers found Lions Road and suggested I check them out. I was a bit apprehensive but decided to give it a shot because it was right next to work and very convenient. From my very first workout, I realized that everything I had been told was completely false and in fact quite the opposite. James cares deeply that you have the right form, you stretch the right amount, and that you have a solid workout. While I thought I was doing well, I have relearned a few lifts and already feel 100% better than I did at my previous gym. If you are looking for a solid gym that cares and teaches the right way to do things, you don’t need to go anywhere. Plus they are just in a sweet location right in Hampton Station! Enjoy a taco or something when you are done. (Just not before or you might regret it!)

    review rating 5  Best CrossFit box around. If you're looking for a box, don't go anywhere else; this place has the best trainers, the best people, and the best equipment. Very sad to leave it, but I know I will be back soon.

I was blown away by the hospitality and encouragement from the members as well as the coaching. Whether you’re in town for just a few days or looking into giving Crossfit a shot, this place is a true gem!

    review rating 5  Coach and owner James Page (who prefers to be addressed by the nickname I gave him, The Machine) is one of many professional, patient and knowledgeable coaches at Lion's Roar. I walked in the door with zero lifting or CrossFit experience, but each coach worked with me to learn the basics of each lift and to ensure that my form was good from the start. I also have a previous history with a couple injuries, but each coach modified or scaled workouts to fit my individual needs. In addition to the excellent coaches, the community at Lion's Roar is very special. I am pretty husky and don't have a lot of experience in a gym environment, but from my first workout to the last, the other members kept me motivated and gave me a lot of positive encouragement. In all honesty, you're not going to find a better environment, or better people to work with to meet your fitness goals - whatever they may be.

    review rating 5  Recently joined this facility after a thorough search of several competing gyms. Head Coach and owner James Page stood out from the get go with him responsiveness and willingness to answer all of the questions I had. They keep class sizes small and their seems to be a high level of accountability. The members were helpful and welcoming! I would highly recommend this facility!

  • review rating 5  OMG, what a cool box! I loved the workout, the community and the location. The equipment was excellent as well. It adjoins some cool start ups and is convenient from any part of the city. If you go, eat some tacos next door after drinking a few beverages at Birds Fly South Project. You will not be disappointed!

    review rating 5  Great coaching, great programming and fantastic facility. The community was fun and engaging. We loved the area of Greenville it is in as well. It's in a cool, trendy warehouse complex with microbrewery, yoga studios, taco shops and more! We had a great workout and will definitely be back!

    review rating 5  I switched to Lion’s Roar hoping to get better coaching for the olympic lifts, realizing that’s what I really enjoyed after a couple years of CrossFit at another gym. Haven’t been disappointed! James has a genuine enthusiasm for weightlifting and has helped me significantly (!!) with my technique; the community is amazing (even toward people like me who don’t partake in the CrossFit classes ;)); and LRC has oly-specific equipment that most gyms don’t. I’ve hung around the gym enough now to see that James cares sincerely about his athletes and goes out of his way to help them succeed. I also really appreciate the way he runs a class, so that everyone gets one on one coaching with cues and movements that are varied based on each athlete’s ability. Seriously, a fantastic gym - I always look forward to my workouts here!

  • review rating 5  My fiance and I tried out cross fit for the first time after body building for years and after our first class and meet James we knew we found a new home..once you walk in the door you feel like family and after years and years of lifting I never gotten as good of a work out as I did here ..after our 6 week class we were said it ended so we signed up as permanent members and we love it
